Central PWI Resumes PWI Free UKW Program throughout Indonesia.

Post-Lebaran Eid al-Fitr 1445 Hijriah, again the Central Association of Indonesian Journalists (PWI) through the PWI Journalist Competency Test Institute (LUKW) held a continuation of free UKW in 38 provinces throughout Indonesia and one special PWI area, namely PWI Surakarta.

According to the Chairman of the Central PWI, Hendry Ch Bangun, accompanied by the Secretary General of the Central PWI, Sayid Iskandarsyah, on Wednesday (3/4),

The continuation of the free UKW has been scheduled at the Provincial PWI in accordance with the proposal from the Provincial PWI management.

Several regional PWIs are ready to implement this free UKW, said Hendry, namely Central Papua Province which will hold UKW in the capital Nabire for five classes on 18-19 April 2024.

Followed by six classes in Riau Province on 23-24 April 2024 and then in South Sumatra with 8 classes on 26-27 April 2024 and in Riau Islands Province six classes, on 3-4 May 2024.

With the continuation of the free UKW PWI, the Provincial PWI chairs welcomed it enthusiastically.

Chairman of PWI Kepri, Andi Gino, when asked to comment, expressed his gratitude to the sponsors and central PWI for understanding the needs of members to improve the quality of journalists. The Chair of PWI Southeast Sulawesi, Sarjono, expressed a similar thing.

According to him, the Central PWI breakthrough program is very appropriate in terms of improving the quality of PWI member journalists.

“Moreover, this is a free program that PWI members have been waiting for,” said Sarjono.

Even the Chair of the South Sumatra PWI, Kurnaidi, stated that the Central PWI UKW was very helpful in improving the quality of journalists in the region.

According to Hendry Ch Bangun, who is usually called HCB, at least in the April – May 2024 period, UKW will be implemented in 10 provinces.

Several provincial regions have carried out the process of uploading UKW participant data.

These include PWI Southeast Sulawesi Province, PWI Central Sulawesi, PWI East Java, PWI West Sumatra, and one province from Kalimantan, the choice is in South Kalimantan or North Kalimantan.

By implementing the free UKW PWI in 10 PWI Provinces, according to HCB, it will simultaneously continue the free UKW PWI Central program with BUMN which has been held in 10 PWI Provinces previously.

Thus, the total number of provincial PWIs that have implemented the free UKW program for Central PWIs is 20 provincial PWIs.

“After kicking off at the end of December 2023, the free Central PWI UKW together with BUMN has been successfully implemented in 10 PWI Provinces, namely in Main Papua, South Papua, North Sulawesi,

Aceh, Yogyakarta, NTB, NTT, Bengkulu, Lampung, and PWI Central Kalimantan Province “explained HCB. In another part, UKW Director Firdaus Komar expressed his thanks to the Ministry of BUMN for helping with the free UKW event. Regarding the sustainability of this free UKW, Firdqus said that journalistic competitions would still be held.

According to Firko, free Central UKW PWI participants still have the opportunity to take part in journalistic competitions like the free UKW PWI with BUMN by competing for a total prize of IDR 50 million.

A special journalistic competition for participants who take part in the free UKW PWI is inseparable from participants who have earlier taken part in the free UKW PWI which kick-offs, on Thursday-Friday (28-29/12).

Simultaneously in three regions at once, namely in Manado , PWI North Sulawesi (Sulut), in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) and in Banda Aceh, PWI Aceh Province.

Technically, regarding the journalistic competition for central UKW PWI participants, said Firdaus, they must meet the following criteria, the theme of the competition writing still refers to topics related to BUMN, namely.

“The role of BUMN in the progress of the press through UKW”, along with the continuation of this free UKW program, the topic is The competition could also be about.

“UKW’s strategic role in improving the quality of the Indonesian press”. Journalistic works entered in the competition are features with a minimum of 1,500 characters.

Next, the contested work is sent to the link provided by the Central PWI admin after three days of UKW implementation which is held in each region.

Regarding the implementation of the free UKW PWI, which will be held in 38 Provincial PWIs and PWI Surakarta, the regional PWIs that will carry out the free UKW need to prepare the administration of participant files in accordance with the provisions applicable to the PWI LUKW,

Then the Provincial PWIs will coordinate to ensure the technical implementation of the UKW LUKW PWI is related to the time and place of implementation.

Then Provincial PWIs are required to report or publish news releases related to the implementation of the free UKW PWI.
