Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/Head of the National Land Agency (ATR/BPN), Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) signed a painting which is the cover of the new book “Today’s Ulayat Land Stories” at The Trans Luxury Hotel, Bandung.

On the painting, Minister AHY inscribed a message that reads.

“Continue to fight for the rights and welfare of indigenous peoples wherever they are”, this expression is a form of his support and commitment in fighting for the rights and welfare of Indigenous Law Communities.

The form of his support and commitment is proven through the publication of two books on Indigenous Law Communities, namely a book entitled “Today’s Ulayat Land Stories” and the Pocket Book of Ulayat Land Registration.

The two books were launched in the series of the International Meeting on Best Practices of Ulayat Land Registration in Indonesia and ASEAN Countries which took place from 4-7 September 2024.

The painting depicting a traditional house, forest, and hills was painted by an artist currently working in Cirebon City, Saefudin.

This man said that the painting he made was a form of appreciation to the Ministry of ATR/BPN for its efforts to certify customary lands that have given life to the Customary Law Community in Indonesia.

The book “Cerita Tanah Ulayat Hari Ini” contains the identification and inventory of customary land spread throughout Indonesia.

The book makes it easier for readers to understand the distribution of Customary Law Communities. This book was compiled by a team of writers consisting of Prof. Dr. Kurnia Warman M. Adli Abdullah Iskandar Syah Setyo Anggraini Adi Putra Fauzi and Beni Kurnia Illahi.

For information, the first International Conference in Indonesia discussing the Registration of Rights to Customary Land was attended by hundreds of participants from various countries. Among them are representatives of the World Bank, World Resources Institute.

Representatives of Foreign Land Institutions throughout Southeast Asia: representatives of the National Committee of Indigenous People (NCIP) of the Philippines, representatives of the Department of Agriculture Land Management (DALAM) of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Laos, representatives of the Office of the National Land Policy Board of Thailand.

Representatives of the Department of Land Thailand; representatives of Indigenous Peoples from 9 provinces in Indonesia; participants from the Ministry of ATR/BPN; representatives from related Ministries.

Academics, student organizations, and representatives of several universities that are active in researching and fighting for indigenous peoples in Indonesia.
