Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/Head of the National Land Agency (ATR/BPN), Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) opened the International Conference on Social Impact Assessment, at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Jakarta, Tuesday (09/17/2024).
In line with the theme “Implementing Better Land Acquisition in Challenging Tenurial Settings Balancing Acceleration, Certainty, and Fairness, Minister AHY emphasized that the Ministry of ATR/BPN will continue to take the right, humanistic, and progressive approach in Land Acquisition for the community.
“In the process, we must remember that Land Acquisition should not hurt anyone.
Concern for vulnerable groups in Land Acquisition is expected not only to be reflected through the provision of fair compensation in nominal terms.
But how to ensure that they are part of development and do not become marginalized groups due to Land Acquisition. No one left behind,” said the Minister of ATR/Head of BPN.
This conference is expected to be a discussion space for experts and delegates from various countries in the process of drafting and issuing policies on Land Acquisition in Indonesia.
“Not only is it useful in implementing future development, but it can also provide protection and legal certainty for the community.
Especially the Customary Law Community, small farmers, the urban poor, and other vulnerable groups,” explained Minister AHY.
The World Bank Director for Indonesia and Timor-Leste, Carolyn Turk, on the same occasion also emphasized her commitment to supporting the ongoing efforts made by the Ministry of ATR/BPN to strengthen the social impact assessment process, including Land Acquisition.
This International Conference was immediately appreciated by the delegates who attended, one of whom was the Deputy Head of Mission, Minister Counsellor and Head of Pol.
Section, European Union Delegation to Indonesia and Brunei, Stéphane Mechati.
He saw this conference as a very important platform for sharing insights and identifying steps in dealing with development issues.
“The experiences that will be shared by delegates from various countries today can offer valuable lessons on how social impact assessments support development and social cohesion. I
I hope we can see how these insights can be adapted to the unique context of Indonesia and contribute to our collective goals.
To promote inclusive and sustainable growth,” concluded Stéphane Mechati.
On this occasion, the Director General of Land Acquisition and Land Development (Dirjen PTPP), Embun Sari reported that the International Conference was held in collaboration with the Ministry of ATR/BPN with the World Bank.
KfW Development Bank, and the European Union (EU). This conference is also a series of collaborations between the Ministry of ATR/BPN and the World Bank, which since 2022 has begun the social impact assessment stage.
The participants who attended the conference, both online and offline, were representatives from the World Bank; Asian Development Bank; KfW Development Bank; the European Union (EU), ministries/institutions.
Domestic and foreign academics; as well as representatives of local governments and the private sector from Australia, Canada, Kenya, Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Nepal, Pakistan, Zambia, and several other countries.
Present to accompany Minister AHY in this International Conference, a number of Senior High Officials and Pratama of the Ministry of ATR/BPN; as well as a number of Heads of BPN Provincial Regional Offices and staff.
