The management of the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) of Banten Province for the 2024-2029 period was officially inaugurated by the General Chairperson of the Central PWI Hendry Ch Bangun, Thursday (23/01).

The inauguration was held at the Horison Ratu Serang Hotel, Tuesday, January 21, 2025.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by a number of important figures, including the Acting (PJ) Governor of Banten Ucok Damenta, regional heads throughout Banten Province, Chairpersons of the Regency/City DPRD throughout Banten.

Academics, organizational leaders, religious figures, journalist organizations and editors-in-chief of mass media in Banten.

The Chairperson of the Banten Province PWI Mashudi in his speech emphasized his commitment to continuing the programs initiated by the Central PWI, especially in increasing member capacity through training.

“Of the 10 Central PWI programs, 9 of them are training. We at PWI Banten will participate in the program.

In addition, PWI members in the future are not only required to be good at writing, but also have a strong national insight,” said Mashudi.

Mashudi also emphasized the importance of cooperation with local governments, the TNI, and the Polri to equip PWI members with national insight and national defense.

“This is important so that journalists have a great responsibility towards the state and society,” he added.

PWI Central Chair Hendry Ch Bangun reminded that the PWI Banten management has a tough task to restore the organization’s dignity.

According to him, for years PWI Banten has not been prominent in achievements, even though it is close to the center of national activities.

“The new management must be able to restore the dignity of PWI Banten.

Journalism activities, both national and international, must start to emerge from Banten.

I hope that journalist competency tests can be carried out routinely here,” said Hendry.

He added that PWI Banten must be a pioneer in improving the insight and competence of journalists so that they are able to answer the challenges of the times.

“With this improvement, PWI Banten can get a good place in society,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Acting Governor of Banten, Ucok Damenta, emphasized the importance of the role of the press in overseeing development.

He hopes that the press in Banten can prioritize professionalism, comply with the journalistic code of ethics, and strengthen synergy with the local government.

“A professional press is the hope of the community.

We are very open to partnering with PWI in order to build regional potential and maintain the integrity of the organization,” said Ucok.

He also invited PWI Banten to become a strong pillar that provides real contributions to the Banten community.
