The Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) of Tangerang Regency held an orientation for prospective new members on Saturday, July 5, 2025.
This activity aims to ensure the capacity and competence of prospective new members and provide an in-depth understanding of the roles and responsibilities as members of the Indonesian Journalists Association.
The activity, which took place at the PWI Tangerang Regency building in Cikokol, was attended by 10 participants from the Journalism and Organizational Orientation (OKK) held by PWI Banten in February 2025.
The Chairperson of PWI Tangerang Regency, Sri Mulyo, said that the orientation for prospective new members aims to ensure that prospective members who join this organization truly have journalistic abilities and the personality of a professional journalist.
“We held this orientation as part of a program to ensure that members registered with the Tangerang Regency PWI truly understand their duties and functions as journalists, and understand the values that apply in the PWI,” he said.
In the orientation, prospective new members were given insight into the PWI organization.
Then an assessment was carried out to ensure the eligibility of prospective members by a team consisting of Endang Jaya Permana, Ahmad Sarifudin, Syukur Rahmat Halawa, and Sihara Pardede.
“This assessment aims to collect in-depth information through interviews with prospective members.
We check and recheck the information we receive about the person concerned, then ensure the commitment that if registered with the Tangerang Regency PWI, they will truly carry out their duties and functions as professional journalists,” he explained.
Mulyo emphasized the importance of integrity and professionalism in the world of journalism. “We are committed to producing quality journalists who uphold press ethics,” he said.
“This orientation is not just a formality, but a concrete step to form journalists who are competitive and responsible,” he concluded.
This program received appreciation from the Head of PWI Banten Province, Mashudi. He said, this activity is very important in building a strong foundation for young journalists.
With a good understanding of ethics and responsibility.
“We hope they can contribute positively to the world of the press and society.
PWI will continue to support the development of journalist competence so that they can face the challenges of an increasingly complex era,” he said.
Mashudi also emphasized that this orientation is a crucial initial step in creating journalists who are not only skilled, but also have high integrity in carrying out their duties.
“We hope that participants can make the most of this opportunity to learn and develop,” he concluded.
