The Deputy Regent of Tangerang, Intan Nurul Hikmah, invited organizations and communities to strengthen their shared commitment to eradicating human trafficking and creating a Tangerang Regency that is safe, friendly, and humane for all.
This was stated by Deputy Regent Intan while attending and opening the seminar “Human Trafficking Around Us,
A Threat to Human Security,” initiated by the Safe Space and Women’s Lentera Institute at the GSG Cikupa District, Tuesday (December 9, 2025).
“I welcome this dialogue and invite everyone.
To take part, stop being silent, and strengthen our shared commitment to creating a Tangerang Regency that is safe, friendly, and humane for all,” said Deputy Regent Intan.
According to her, human trafficking is a crime that robs a person of their freedom: robbing them of their body, robbing them of their rights, robbing them of their future.
And most painfully, this crime often occurs so close to us, in our own neighborhoods.
“Many of the victims are not distant relatives; they could be our neighbors’ children, our nieces, our siblings.
Or young people hoping for a better life but instead being caught in the clutches of exploitation,” he said.
He continued, “The theme, “Human Trafficking Around Us: A Threat to Human Security,” is not only thought-provoking.
It also shakes our conscience as human beings, as parents, and as citizens, against all forms of exploitation and damage to human dignity, especially women and children.
“Thank you for initiating and holding this very important activity.
Forums like this are not just spaces for discussion, but spaces for awareness, spaces for empathy, spaces to strengthen our collective resolve.
Big changes always start from small steps taken with sincerity and courage,” he explained.
He emphasized that the Tangerang Regency Government continues to strengthen protection services for women and children, establishing an integrated complaint mechanism,
and expanding the reach of assistance for victims.
These efforts will not be successful without the support and active participation of all elements of society.
“The role of the community is key. We need eyes to see signs of danger, ears to listen,
to hear suppressed grievances, and hearts to care and not turn a blind eye to potential exploitation. None of our citizens should be turned into commodities,” she urged.
Meanwhile, Siska Marini, initiator of Lentera Perempuan, stated that the activity was part of the 16 Days of Action Against Violence Against Women, which runs from November 25 to December 10, 2025.
“This activity arose from our concern and anxiety because violence can happen anywhere and to anyone.
Violence due to human trafficking robs people of their dignity,” said Siska.
She hopes that through this seminar, support and commitment will be garnered from local governments and interfaith leaders.
Community organizations and the community will become stronger in efforts to prevent and address human trafficking.
“Everyone must act when human dignity is violated. Through this activity, I hope the support and solidarity of all parties will grow stronger, and together we will fight human trafficking and all forms of violence, especially against women and children,” he concluded.
