A representative from the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) has requested that the Directorate General of Higher Education (Dikti) impose severe sanctions on lecturers who lack ethics and decency.
An Indomart employee was spat at by a lecturer from the University of Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UIM), which falls under the fourth principle of uncivilization.
According to Pancasila guidelines, the fourth principle clearly stipulates just and civilized humanity.
The Deputy Chairman of Commission X of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) from the PKB faction, Lalu Hadrian Irfani, condemned the reprehensible act committed by Makassar Islamic University (UIM) lecturer Amal Said, who spat on a supermarket cashier.
“We demand that the Ministry of Education and Culture impose sanctions on lecturers who lack decency,” Hardian said at the hearing.
According to him, this incident violates human values and undermines the dignity of the teaching profession.
I believe, as a lecturer, spitting is an unacceptable behavior for an educator.
He expressed his deep concern over the incident, stating that it was an uncivilized act, degrading the human dignity of others.
“This lecturer is absolutely intolerable in any social setting,” said Lalu Hadrian in Jakarta on Monday (November 29, 2025).

According to him, lecturers not only serve as teachers in the classroom but also as moral role models in the public sphere.
“I find this incident extremely regrettable and unacceptable under any circumstances.
Lecturers are educators and moral role models in the public sphere, so this arrogant behavior, especially spitting on a service worker, is clearly unacceptable.”
Education observer Dr. Frengki Harsudin, S.IP., M.Si., stated that a lecturer does not provide understanding to an Indomart employee.
This tends to be unprofessional in the career of an uncivilized lecturer.
“We demand that law enforcement prosecute this matter; this can be filed against the ethics within the teaching profession,” he said.
