On approximately 1.5 hectares of land, we can produce agricultural products that are beneficial for health and boost the economy.

SERANG, POSINTERNASIONAL.COM.

The Al Markaz Islamic Boarding School in Sambilawang, Waringinkurung District, Serang Regency, Banten, is developing agro-edutourism as a modern agricultural ecosystem based on education and empowerment.

The area, which was inaugurated in 2023, is an example of small-scale productive land utilization that not only supports food security but also serves as a scientific tourism destination. (February 5, 2026).

The Head of the Banten Province National Land Agency (BPN) Regional Office, Harison Mocodompis, received a visit from the Director General of Agrarian Planning, Embun Sari, along with Special Staff for Agrarian Reform, Rezka Oktoberia, and Director of Community Land Empowerment, Freddy A. Kolintama.

The visit was conducted to directly inspect the agro-edutourism area and explore the potential of smallholder agriculture as a frontline in supporting food self-sufficiency.

Embun Sari expressed her appreciation for the warm welcome from the Islamic boarding school management and the innovations being developed.

He emphasized that agrarian reform does not stop at merely granting land certificates. “Agrarian reform is not just about securing land rights, but also about what happens after the land is acquired.

If land is left unproductive, the goal of redistribution will fail,” he said.

Embun explained that since 2006, agrarian reform has been designed through an asset reform and access reform approach, namely land grants followed by empowerment.

According to him, the Al Markaz agro-edutourism model demonstrates how land can be managed to create added economic value.

The driving force in community empowerment. He believes the success of this area is inseparable from the role of religious leaders (kyai) and Islamic boarding school (pesantren) administrators.

“The program will not run optimally without a driving force. We must increase the number of people like this Kiai,” Embun added.

Meanwhile, Rezka Oktoberia, Special Staff for Agrarian Reform, considered the Al Markaz agro-edutourism program an inspiring practice in land empowerment.

“This isn’t just a visit to an Islamic boarding school, but a firsthand experience of extraordinary agro-edutourism.

On approximately 1.5 hectares of land, we can produce agricultural products that are beneficial for health and boost the economy,” he said.

The Islamic boarding school complex has 14 greenhouses, three of which utilize the Internet of Things (IoT) system.

Each of these greenhouses is filled with fruit plants such as grapes, melons, and vegetables.

In addition, the area also features an outbound area and a flying fox. This allows visitors to not only gain agricultural knowledge but also develop character.

Agriculture is an important part of the students’ character education.

Ninety-five percent of these activities involve the students themselves. Besides providing a subject, they also provide opportunities for those with an interest in agriculture.

He believes that today’s students must be equipped with various skills to compete in the outside world after completing their studies at the Islamic boarding school.

The head of the Al-Markaz Islamic Boarding School, Ustadz Amirul Faruk, stated that farming is not just a profession, but a philosophy of life.

“Whether you want to be president, minister, official, or whatever, you have to be able to farm.

From agriculture, we learn responsibility, patience, and resilience,” he said.

Through this visit, it is hoped that the agro-edu-tourism model developed by the Al-Markaz Islamic Boarding School can inspire productive land management in other regions.

It also strengthens the role of agrarian reform in supporting national food security.

Also in attendance were the Head of the Serang Regency Land Office, Elfidian Iskariza, and the Head of the Serang City Land Office, Taufik Rokhman.

The Head of the Arrangement and Empowerment Section, the Head of the Survey and Measurement Section, and their staff.
