Supported by a Majority of Voters, Hendry Ch Bangun Ready to Run.

The Chairman of the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) Central Board, Hendry Ch Bangun, supported by the majority of provincial PWI officials.

Has declared his readiness to run and win the United PWI Congress, scheduled for Cikarang, Bekasi, on August 29-30.

“Last night, I held a meeting with around 20 provincial PWI officials, and all of them have expressed their support for my candidacy.

In the next few days, they will provide written support in accordance with the rules set by the Congress Steering Committee,” Hendry said on Thursday (August 7) in Jakarta.

As previously announced, the Congress Steering Committee stipulated that a candidate for chairman must receive written support from at least 20 percent of provincial PWI officials to meet the requirement, which equates to eight provinces.

Currently, seven names are said to be potential candidates, although no confirmation has been received.

Hendry expressed his readiness to share this information with the public, especially PWI members and officials across 38 provinces.

The PWI Unity Congress was made possible after Hendry Ch Bangun, elected as PWI General Chairperson at the 2023 Congress in Bandung and recognized by the state through Decree No. 0000946.AH.-01.08 of 2024 from the Ministry of Law and Human Rights.

Reached a peace agreement with PWI Extraordinary Congress Chairperson Zulmansyah, mediated by Press Council member Dahlan Dahi.

Prior to this, there had been mutual claims and even police reports, including accusations of embezzlement and abuse of office against Hendry Ch Bangun and his associates, and a report of a notary deed containing false information against Zulmansyah and his associates.

The report against Hendry Ch Bangun was declared free of criminal elements with the issuance of a Letter of Termination of Investigation by the Jakarta Metropolitan Police on June 10, 2024.

The report against Zulmansyah is currently being processed at the Criminal Investigation Agency (Bareskrim) of the National Police Headquarters.

“Putting aside personal interests, I willingly reduced my term of office, which was supposed to last until September 2028, and agreed to the congress this August, for the sake of the PWI.

The impression of dualism, fueled by the massive campaign for the PWI Extraordinary Congress, has left the PWI in a precarious position.

The central and provincial governments are reluctant to cooperate for fear of being perceived as biased.

Likewise, private partners have been reluctant to cooperate for fear of being perceived as biased. The same applies to the work programs of the Central and Provincial PWI.

The solution is a congress, so that the PWI can reunite and implement the work programs its members have been waiting for,” said Hendry.

He stated that there was indeed considerable opposition from members and administrators to the congress.

As the legitimate PWI, recognized by the state, and the only legally incorporated PWI, Hendry Ch Bangun should continue.

With all his strength, presence throughout Indonesia and a long history of conducting activities at the district, city, provincial, and national levels, the PWI will be able to move forward.

“But I assure my colleagues to take a forward-looking view, reduce tensions between the PWI and the government, and take action to benefit members who, over the past year.

Have experienced the stagnation of educational and training programs such as the Journalist Competency Test, the Indonesian Journalism School, and the Journalism Safari,” said Hendry.

After traveling to several regions, including North Sumatra, Bali, West Java, and the communications sector, practically all PWI provincial administrators are now supporting the success of the congress.

Hendry himself is confident that the congress will run smoothly and peacefully because the Steering Committee and Organizing Committee personnel.

A combination of all PWI elements at the national level, are experienced, have worked hard, and have communicated with stakeholders, including government institutions and partners.
