Jakarta SAR Office rescue personnel together with joint SAR elements carried out search efforts for a child named Panca (4) who drowned in the Ciliwung River, Senen District, Central Jakarta, Saturday (18/11).

This incident occurred on Friday (17/11) at around 14.00 WIB where the victim was playing on the banks of the Ciliwung river then slipped and fell and is still being searched for.

“We deployed rescue personnel together with joint SAR elements complete with water SAR equipment to search for victims.” Said Fazzli, S.A.P., M.Si., Head of the Jakarta SAR Office as SAR Mission Coordinator (SMC) in SAR operations.

He also said that the search effort was divided into two areas where the first team searched using a rubber boat and combing the river flow using anchors up to 1.5 KM away.

Then the second team carried out a visual search by land around the incident location.

Dozens of joint SAR personnel were involved in the search for victims, including the Jakarta SAR Office, BPBD DKI Jakarta, IEA, PPSU DKI Jakarta, GMC and the community.

According to local residents, the child was initially just playing, but after running around his foot slipped and then drowned.

Jono (45) said that after trying to search around the incident, the 4 year old child was no longer at the scene.

“The parents didn’t know that their children were playing on the edge of the river,” he said.
