Indonesia has received high appreciation from the World Bank and countries around the world for the achievements of agrarian reform which have been successfully implemented over the past seven years.

The Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning who is also the Head of the National Land Agency (BPN), Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), represents the Indonesian government.

Appointed as the main speaker at the 2024 World Bank Land Conference high-level panel in Washington DC (13/5).

This conference was attended by more than 1,000 people from more than 81 countries and 21 ministerial level officials.

The event was opened by Vice President for Sustainable Development World Bank Jurgen Foegelle.

Minister AHY explained the main reasons and keys to success behind the success of the agrarian reform program.

“The key to Indonesia’s success lies in strong government leadership and management. “Community participation and collaboration of various parties as well as an adaptive approach,” said AHY.

AHY continued, this cannot be separated from the leadership of President Joko Widodo.

“The presence of transformative leadership and effective management by President Joko Widodo.

“It is an important factor in accelerating the land mapping and registration process,” said the alumnus of the Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University.

With high commitment from the central government, continued AHY, this has encouraged the birth of a number of supporting regulations.

Adequate funding schemes, streamline coordination between ministries, and also inspire the role of regional governments.

“Apart from that, this step was accompanied by community participation and enthusiasm from all parties, including our members of parliament.

“To always be adaptive to various opportunities and challenges,” said AHY.

On this occasion, AHY appeared as the main speaker along with a panel of other speakers such as the Colombian Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Jhenifer Mojica Florez.

Gerogia Deputy Minister of Justice Tamar Tkheshelasgvili, Sierra Leone Minister of Housing and Spatial Planning Turad Senesia.

Apart from discussing agrarian reform strategies, this conference also discussed the impact of agrarian reform policies on the Climate Change agenda, which is of international concern.
