Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/Head of the National Land Agency (ATR/BPN), Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) is optimistic that former or former Free Aceh Movement (GAM) combatants can obtain land before the change of government in October 2024.

This certainty was obtained after Minister AHY sent a special team to conduct in-depth investigations directly through the Inter-Agency Coordination Meeting which took place at the Aceh Governor’s Office on Sunday (14/07/2024).

The special team envoy of Minister AHY was led by the Director General (Dirjen) of Agrarian Management of the Ministry of ATR/BPN, Dalu Agung Darmawan.

“Thank God, we can agree on a timeline for land settlement for former GAM combatants.

God willing, the handover can be done by early October,” said the Director General of Agrarian Management full of optimism.

For your information, the land for former GAM combatants is a state promise outlined in the RI-GAM government peace agreement, namely the 2005 Helsinki Agreement.

Thus, Special Staff for Inter-Institutional Cooperation, Si Made Rai Edi Astawa, stated that this matter was Minister AHY’s priority to be resolved immediately.

“Minister AHY emphasized that land settlement for former GAM combatants is a priority that he wants to complete during his term of office, because this is a state promise that has been delayed for 19 years,” stressed Si Made Rai Edi Astawa.

In line with this, the Director of Confirmation and Management of Forest Areas, Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK).

Donny A. Satriayudha is committed to fully supporting land settlement for former GAM combatants. “We will follow up on this coordination meeting together in the Ad Hoc Task Force.

To find land settlement for ex-combatants, as soon as possible,” he said as a representative of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry.

The success of this Coordination Meeting could not be separated from the meeting between the special team of Minister AHY delegates with the Wali of Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam.

Malik Mahmud Al-Haytar and his Special Staff, Rustam Effendi the previous night.

Wali Nanggroe Aceh expressed his appreciation for Minister AHY’s special attention and gave his blessing for holding the Coordination Meeting in the hope that there would be a concrete and quick resolution to this land promise.

The agreement regarding land settlement was also signed by all representatives from across ministries/institutions, the Aceh Provincial Government, the Wali Nanggroe Institute, the Aceh Rehabilitation Agency (BRA).

And the Aceh Transition Committee (KPA) which represents former GAM combatants.

This strengthens the certainty of land settlement for former GAM combatants.

For your information, in implementing this resolution, the Aceh Provincial Government together with the Ministry of ATR/BPN are proposing the release of up to 22,000 hectares of land in East Aceh Regency as part of the National Strategic Project (PSN).

The plan is that the land in this one stretch will be given Joint Ownership Rights which will be managed by the Wali Nanggroe institution for the welfare of 3,000 former GAM Combatants and their families.

Also present at the Coordination Meeting were a number of Primary High Leadership Officials from the Ministry of ATR/BPN along with the ranks of the Aceh Province BPN Regional Office.
