Foreign Citizen (WNA) from Portugal, defendant in a liquid cocaine drug case, Fernando Miguel Gama De Sousa admitted to being electrocuted by a police investigator from Polda Metro Jaya during the examination, this was revealed when giving a statement at the Tangerang District Court, Banten.

“At the hotel, I was also beaten by the police and then tortured using electric shocks,” said Fernando in a trial with the agenda of crown witness testimony, Tuesday night.

Fernando was accompanied by attorneys Bernard Kaligis, Desyana and Andi Ari Azhari from the law office of Prof. OC Kaligis and was present with another defendant Rui Pedro Azevedo Viana in the trial chaired by judge M. Alfi Sahrin Usuf.

Rui was charged with carrying liquid cocaine in a shampoo bottle from Portugal to Jakarta via Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Tangerang City, then the police arrested Fernando at a hotel in the Pecatu area, Bali on March 17, 2024.

Fernando’s attorney, Bernard Kaligis, denied that his client did not give Rui 9,000 European dollars plus IDR 3 million, but according to the provisions, each guest is only allowed to bring money under 10,000 European dollars to facilitate the use of money while in Indonesia.

“It is not true that I gave the money to Rui, in fact my money in the hotel room was confiscated by the police as evidence,” said Fernando through a translator from the Portuguese Embassy in Jakarta.

In Fernando’s confession to the judge, he never bought a plane ticket for Rui from Lisbon, Portugal to Jakarta and Bali but from Rodrigo who is currently on the Police’s wanted list (DPO).

According to Fernando, the purpose of meeting Rui was to introduce Indonesia because Rui was coming to Bali for the first time.

Meanwhile, the 9,000 European dollars were planned to be used for various holiday needs for two months in Bali and then continued to Thailand, Cambodia and Laos.

Fernando’s attorney questioned Rui’s statement that often changed that the cocaine he brought to Indonesia came from Brazil but at the beginning of the trial said he did not know the contents of the purple bag contained drugs.

“We question why the evidence was destroyed earlier and not shown in court, even though the evidence was considered not dangerous, he said.

The trial that began at 19:17 WIB and ended at 22:39 WIB will continue next week with the prosecutor’s demands.
