I have permission from Satpol PP, no problem,” said a student who was caught pulling down the banner.

Tangerang, POSINTERNASIONAL.COM

The demonstration carried out by the Tangerang Regency Student Executive Board (BEM) alliance on Monday (10/2) ended in controversy. The demonstration, which was initially peaceful, turned chaotic with the burning of tires and banners, including one that said National Press Day (HPN) 2025.

This incident occurred without considering the contents of the banners that were burned. When several students pulled down the banners, they claimed to have received permission from the Satpol PP.

“I have permission from Satpol PP, no problem,” said a student who was caught pulling down the banner.

However, this statement was denied by the Tangerang Regency Satpol PP. When confirmed, the officers on duty emphasized that they had never given permission to pull down or burn the banners.

“I never told them to. Which Satpol PP gave permission?” said one of the officers who was securing the action.

The burning of the banners sparked reactions from various parties, especially members of the press who felt that the symbol of the 2025 HPN celebration should not have been targeted in student demonstrations.

This incident adds to the long list of protests that have led to controversial incidents. Authorities are expected to follow up on this incident immediately to avoid further misunderstandings.
