The Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency (ATR/BPN) is committed to accelerating the registration of 3.2 million hectares of customary land for around 3,000 Customary Law Communities spread across 16 provinces in Indonesia.

This is in line with the issuance of Regulation of the Minister of ATR/Head of BPN Number 14 of 2024 concerning the Implementation of Land Administration and Registration of Land Rights of Customary Law Communities.

“This (registration of customary land, ed.) is not a simple matter because we know that land in various regions also has its own designation.

“But we also hope that the government will always be present to ensure that Customary Law Communities are also protected and their rights are guaranteed,” said Minister AHY

At the Coordination Meeting on the Acceleration of Implementation of ATR/Head of BPN Ministerial Regulation Number 14 of 2024 at the Office of the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Political Affairs. Security (Kemenko Polhukam), Jakarta, Tuesday (23/07/2024).

For your information, the 16 provinces where customary land has been inventoried and identified by the Ministry of ATR/BPN include West Sumatra, Central Kalimantan, Bali, NTT, West Papua, Papua, North Sumatra, Central Sulawesi, Aceh, Riau Islands, Riau, Jambi, South Sumatra , West Kalimantan, East Kalimantan and South Kalimantan.

Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, Hadi Tjahjanto, on the same occasion said that a joint activity or joint step was needed as an effort to accelerate the registration of customary land.

Starting from coordinating and synchronizing the implementation of cross-ministerial regulations, joint socialization of various cross-ministerial regulations including with Indigenous Law Communities.

Updating data and synchronizing data regarding the status of recognizing the rights of Indigenous Peoples, as well as coordinating and synchronizing the determination of locations for joint pilot projects.

“So where it is, where it is located, we can find out together and we will carry out an inventory and identification.

“After all this is done, the ATR/BPN Ministry will register the customary lands,” concluded Hadi Tjahjanto.
