The Deputy Regent of Tangerang, Intan Nurul Hikmah, encouraged all parties to strengthen their commitment to improving maternal and infant health.
This was stated by Deputy Regent Intan when opening the Tangerang Regency Mother and Newborn Rescue Movement Team Meeting at the Vega Gading Serpong Hotel on Wednesday (November 26, 2025).
“I ask all components to continue to strengthen their shared commitment to play an active role in improving maternal and infant health.
Each working group must be able to carry out its duties optimally.
This will reduce the maternal and infant mortality rate in Tangerang Regency as expected,” said Deputy Regent Intan.
She stated that Tangerang Regency remains vulnerable. In 2024, there were 34 maternal deaths and 214 infant deaths.
In 2025, from January to October 2025, 17 maternal deaths and 171 infant deaths were recorded.
This downward trend in cases should not cause complacency, but rather encourage us to continue our efforts to reduce maternal and infant mortality rates in Tangerang Regency.
“Although the maternal and infant mortality rate will decline by 2025, we still need to take several anticipatory and mitigation measures.
To reduce the maternal and infant mortality rate in Tangerang Regency,” he concluded.
According to him, the Tangerang Regency Mother and Newborn Rescue Movement is a movement worthy of appreciation for its noble mission.
This program was launched on January 16, 2014, and the Tangerang Regency government is committed to maintaining the sustainability of this noble program.
“The Mother and Newborn Rescue Movement is crucial and plays a strategic role in preparing the golden generation of 2045.
Every mother and child life we save today will be part of the nation’s great success in the future,” he said.
He also expressed his gratitude and appreciation to all relevant regional officials.
To the healthcare workers and partners who have dedicated themselves and made significant contributions to improving the quality of public health, particularly maternal and infant health in Tangerang Regency,
“Let us continue to maintain the spirit of cooperation, mutual assistance, and collaboration among various community components in Tangerang Regency.
To realize optimal maternal and child health services in Tangerang Regency,” he concluded.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Health Office, Dr. Hendra Tarmidzi, reported that maternal deaths in 2025 will mostly be caused by pregnancy complications (eclampsia) that are not treated properly.
“Usually, pregnant women experience eclampsia and hypertension, which then lead to seizures. They are taken to the hospital too late, and as a result, treatment is delayed, leading to death,” Hendra explained.
He hopes that through this New Mother and Infant Rescue Movement Team Meeting, community health centers (Puskesmas), clinics, midwives, private practices, hospitals, and professional organizations can benefit more.
They will then analyze and implement appropriate and effective steps to address the challenges of the maternal and child health program in Tangerang Regency.
“This is our collective responsibility. We must not be the ones causing infant or maternal deaths due to our own mishandling.
Treatment and prevention must be carried out correctly, starting from the community health center (Puskesmas), clinics, midwives, private practice, and hospitals. There must be no more deaths,” he stressed.
