Zahwa Azelia Putri: Kohati Continues to Support Women’s Involvement in Politics to Achieve the Welfare of the People and Nation.

TANGERANG, POSINTERNASIONAL.COM

Women’s involvement in politics has continued to increase over time, starting from the 1999 general election to the last 2024 election.

This has become the spirit of women to realize their rights in order to achieve equality and justice, Sunday (29/06/2025).

In Indonesia, an affirmative action policy has been implemented to provide provisions that political parties must involve female representation to nominate themselves as legislative candidates with a provision of at least 30%.

Even more advanced, there are provisions for affirmative action in the application of a zipper system that for every 3 (three) prospective candidates there is at least 1 (one) woman.

Article 55 paragraph (2) of Law No. 10 of 2008 states, In the list of prospective candidates as referred to in paragraph (1), every 3 (three) prospective candidates there must be at least 1 (one) female prospective candidate.

Paragraph (1) stipulates that the names of candidates in the list of prospective candidates are arranged according to serial numbers.

However, the challenge faced in the 30% representation is only the nomination, not the electability, and in reality, although women’s involvement continues to increase, it has not yet reached 30%.

In the 2024-2029 period, the acquisition of DPR RI seats for women was 127 women out of a total of 580 seats with an increase of 22.1% compared to 1999, the percentage of female DPR members was only 8.2% and the 2004 election was only 11.5%.

Although there has been an increase, it would be good if fellow women continue to support women’s involvement in the political sphere to reach the maximum number.

According to Hj. jamilah who is a resource person in the special training activities of kohati Women’s involvement in the political sphere is very necessary, because the policies that apply in society are the influence of the political sphere.

In terms of the needs of women and children, of course those who understand the policy better are fellow women, such as the provision of lifts on JPO for pregnant women.

The distribution of breastfeeding rooms, and other facilities that are friendly to women and children need to be implemented.

For that, Kohati continues to provide support for women who want to play a role in the political sphere to continue to provide benefits to their people and nation.
