Tangerang Regent Signs MOU for Free Private Elementary and Junior High School Program.

Tangerang Regent, Moch. Maesyal Rasyid officially signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the free private elementary and junior high school program with the Private Education Unit that Provides Free Schools.

The event was held at the Multipurpose Building (GSG) of the Tangerang Regency Government Center (Puspemkab). Wednesday, (2/7/25).

The Tangerang Regent said that this moment is a historic day for education in Tangerang Regency.

This free private school program is a strategic step by the local government in facilitating and providing easy access to education for all children in the Tangerang Regency area.

“The signing of this MoU marks the start of the free school program in stages in 2025.

This year, as many as 51 elementary schools with a total of around 15,000 students and 128 junior high schools with around 33,000 students have officially received free school facilities,” said Regent Maesyal Rasyid

He said that in 2026 and a maximum of 2027, all private elementary and junior high schools in Tangerang Regency will also be gradually made free.

According to him, the main objective of this program is to ensure that no children in Tangerang Regency drop out of school, increase the average length of schooling, and support the government’s efforts to educate the nation.

“With equitable education, we hope that our children’s human resources will be increasingly qualified and ready to contribute to building the region and nation according to President Prabowo’s Astacita,” he added.

He also emphasized that this free private school program is a manifestation of the government’s commitment to provide equal.

“This program is fully designed to provide educational funding assistance for students who attend private educational units that have collaborated with the Tangerang Regency Government, both at elementary and private levels,” he said

On the same occasion, the Director of Elementary and Secondary Education of the Indonesian Ministry of Education, Dr. H. Khamim greatly appreciated the initiative of Tangerang Regency as a pioneer of the free school program for private elementary and junior high schools in Indonesia.

“This program will certainly increase the gross and pure participation rates of school-age children, and be an example for other regions in Indonesia.

And to my knowledge, as far as I can remember this is the first in Indonesia, namely Tangerang Regency,” he said.
