In commemoration of National Waste Awareness Day (HPSN) 2025, the Tangerang Regency Government through the Environment and Sanitation Service (DLHK) together with the Banten 3 Lontar PLTU and the environmental organization The Ocean Cleanup launched the Interceptor Ship to overcome waste pollution in the Cisadane River.

The event was attended by the Head of the DLHK Service, Representatives from The Ocean Cleanup, Inspectorate Inspector, Head of the Tangerang Regency Bappeda, Teluknaga Sub-district Secretary, Head of Banten 3 Lontar PLTU, Head of PT. Indo Power Internasional.

The event took place at Tabur Banksa Wika NV HUB, Tanjung Burung, Teluknaga District, Wednesday (26/02/2025).

The momentum was also marked by the signing of a Letter of Intent (LoI) between the Banten 3 Lontar PLTU and the Tangerang Regency DLHK, as a joint commitment to sustainable waste management, including the use of aquatic waste as Solid Jumput Fuel (BBJP) for the energy industry.

The Innovative Technology Interceptor Ship for Clean Rivers is a sophisticated technology developed by The Ocean Cleanup to collect waste from rivers before it reaches the sea.

With an automatic design and based on environmentally friendly energy, this ship can collect tons of waste per day, helping to reduce river pollution and prevent negative impacts on aquatic ecosystems.

Head of the Tangerang Regency Environmental Service, Fachrul Rozi, said that the government is committed to reducing plastic waste dumped into the sea by 70% by 2025 through Presidential Regulation Number 83 of 2018.

“This effort requires not only strong policies, but also real action involving various stakeholders, including the government, business world, academics, and the community,” he said.

The Ocean Clean Up Interceptor Ship on the Cisadane River is a real step to strengthen river waste management.

However, the operation of this ship faces major challenges. The waste flowing in the Cisadane River is mostly large organic waste, such as bamboo, logs, furniture, and mattresses.

“This has been an obstacle to the effectiveness of the Interceptor Ship. Thanks to the hard work and synergy between the Tangerang Regency DLHK, the Main Waste Bank, and The Ocean Clean Up, we now have a River Waste Management SOP that is capable of lifting 2-4 tons of waste per day,” he said.

To increase the effectiveness of river waste management and minimize the residue managed at the Jatiwaringin TPA, his party is collaborating with the Banten 3 Lontar PLTU through strategic cooperation.

Organic waste from the river will be used as Solid Jumputan Fuel (BBJP) through a co-firing process as a complementary fuel to coal at the PLTU.

In 2025, the government is targeting the completion of river waste to 70%. “Indeed, there is only one in this river, but later in the Cisauk area there will also be one.

This year it has just been completed in the Cisauk and Tanjung Burung areas for river waste, and we have initiated concrete steps in sustainable river waste management in Indonesia.
