The Regional Secretary (Sekda) of Tangerang Regency, Soma Atmaja, attended and opened the 2026 National Waste Awareness Day (HPSN) commemoration held at the Ketapang Urban Aquaculture (KUA) area in Mauk District on Monday (February 2, 2026).

On this occasion, Sekda Soma emphasized the importance of joint commitment and concrete action from all parties, including government, academics, and communities.

Businesses and the public, especially the younger generation, must manage waste to create a healthy, comfortable environment that has a broad impact, not just on the environment.

For the community, but also for the sustainability of all related ecosystems.

“The waste problem is a shared one, requiring collective concern, commitment, and concrete action, from the government.

Academics, communities, business actors, and the public, especially the younger generation, must be addressed in a sustainable manner. Waste is not just a matter of cleanliness.

It also concerns health, environmental sustainability, and the future of future generations,” Soma emphasized.

According to him, coastal areas such as Mauk District have a strategic role as well as unique challenges.

Unmanaged waste will end up in the sea, damaging coastal ecosystems and threatening marine life.

It will also impact the livelihoods of fishing communities. He encourages all parties to participate in HPSN.

This serves as a momentum to further strengthen collaboration and concrete action to preserve and maintain coastal areas comprehensively and sustainably.

“Let’s make the 2026 National Waste Awareness Day a momentum to strengthen collaboration between the government, the public,

the business world, and the environmental community, to realize a clean, green, and sustainable Tangerang Regency, especially in coastal areas,” he said.

He continued, saying that the Tangerang Regency Government remains committed to promoting sustainable waste management and handling.

Therefore, he strongly supports and appreciates the implementation of the National Waste Awareness Day (HPSN) with its beach cleanups, mangrove planting, and the release of mimi (a kind of fish) as a tangible manifestation of concern for the coastal environment of Tangerang Regency.

“We appreciate and thank all parties who have contributed to organizing this activity.

To work together to increase awareness and protect the coastal environment so that its ecosystem remains sustainable and provides sustainable benefits,” he added.
