“Journalists are also revolutionary soldiers. Pen and paper are their sharp weapons,” was a quote from the keynote speech delivered by Nguyễn Trọng Nghĩa, Member of the Politburo.
Secretary of the Party Central Committee who is also Head of the Vietnam Central Commission for Communications and Education.
The speech was delivered at the opening of the Celebration of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day which turned 100 years old, Thursday morning, June 19, 2025.
The celebration was marked by the 2025 National Press Festival and in-depth discussions organized by the Vietnam Journalists Association (VJA) at the National Convention Center.
Pham Hung Street, Hanoi, Vietnam, starting Thursday morning (19/6) to Saturday (21/6).
Mohammad Nasir, the administrator of the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) from Hanoi, reported that the opening ceremony of the festival featured various dance arts on a large stage. Stunning, and received thunderous applause.
The dancers who performed moved simultaneously, harmoniously, and agilely as if they had been practicing for years.
They were like the result of a selection by the committee, both in terms of body weight, and body size which were on average balanced for jumping, twisting, and various other attractive movements.
The festival exhibited more than 500 digital photos, artifacts, and archival materials that allowed visitors and journalists to dive into the legacy of Vietnamese journalism that was bold and innovative.
The event held by VJA was considered very important because it commemorated several historical milestones, namely the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution (August 19, 1945 – August 19, 2025).
The National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 – September 2, 2025), the 135th birthday of President Ho Chi Minh (May 19, 1890 – May 19, 2025), the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam Journalists Association (April 21, 1950 – April 21, 2025), and most importantly, the 100th anniversary of the Vietnam Revolutionary Press (June 21, 1925 – June 21, 2025).
Furthermore, Nguyễn Trọng Nghĩa, in his speech quoted President Hồ Chí Minh’s statement that journalism not only reflects reality, but also serves as a powerful spiritual force—raising national aspirations for development and strengthening faith in the socialist path.
According to Nghĩa, the 2025 National Press Festival is a real symbol of sustainability and progress—from print media to broadcasting and digital platforms.
From traditional newsrooms to integrated multiplatform editorial models, from pen and paper to artificial intelligence and big data.
Meanwhile, from the stage to open the press festival themed “Vietnamese Press – Loyalty, Creativity.
Courage, and Innovation for National Development and Defense”, VJA President Le Quoc Minh expressed his gratitude to the audience from various circles.
Those who attended were mainly the press community, press figures, government officials, and press organizations from Southeast Asia and other countries.
Foreign press organizations that also attended the commemoration of the Vietnamese Revolutionary Press included the Central Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) represented by Agus Sudibyo and M. Nasir, then representatives of press organizations from Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia, China, South Korea, the Philippines, Laos, and Singapore.
Lê Quốc Minh, also a member of the Party Central Committee, further said, “Over the past century, Vietnam’s revolutionary press.
Has consistently played the role of a vanguard force in the fields of ideology and culture, and now remains the Party’s loyal voice and a reliable forum for the people.”
He emphasized that “loyalty” is not just a trait, but a guiding principle for revolutionary journalists—reflecting a firm commitment to the Party’s ideals and the interests of the nation and its people.
In the digital era, the press must rely on “creativity” to adapt and evolve to meet the demands of the audience.
This year’s festival was attended by more than 124 news agencies, with around 130 booths filled by mainstream central and local newspapers, as well as leading journalism training institutions.
These media outlets have covered all aspects of Vietnamese society—from politics and economics to culture, defense, security, and foreign affairs.
“This year’s festival has a significant meaning, marking the centenary journey of the Vietnam Revolutionary Press.
The organization is carefully planned to ensure all activities reflect the essence of Vietnamese journalism—from its tradition to its modern transformation,” said VJA President Lê Quốc Minh, who is also the Editor-in-Chief of Nhân Dân Newspaper.
