Present as Guest of Honor at the 106th Commemoration of Azerbaijan’s Independence, Minister AHY Talks about the Potential for Indonesia-Azerbaijan Cooperation.

Minister of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/Head of the National Land Agency (ATR/BPN) Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) emphasized the Indonesian government’s commitment to continuing to strengthen cooperation with Azerbaijan.

This was conveyed by Minister AHY when delivering his remarks as Guest of Honor at the Commemoration of the Independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Jakarta (27/5).

“In the future, we are committed to further strengthening our partnership and exploring new economic cooperation paths that will mutually benefit both countries,” stressed Minister AHY.

In his speech, Minister AHY explained that the history of Indonesia and Azerbaijan began at the beginning of the 20th century, which was marked by a strong sense of solidarity and cooperation as well as a common goal to achieve self-determination and sovereignty.

“This is the cornerstone of our bilateral relations, which have developed over the years, characterized by strong cooperation in various fields, including trade, investment, energy, public services and education,” he said.

He said, in the economic aspect, Azerbaijan has become a supplier of crude oil for Indonesia, reaching US$255.7 million in 2023 with the oil and gas sector being the main commodity.

Meanwhile, in the field of regional and multilateral relations, both Indonesia and Azerbaijan also have similar principles, as they are both members of the United Nations (UN), Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and the Non-Aligned Movement.

“This is what I want to emphasize, through this parliamentary cooperation, it is hoped that it can play an important role in strengthening bilateral relations and increasing understanding and mutual respect between nations,” explained Minister AHY.

Ambassador of Azerbaijan to the Republic of Indonesia, Jalal Sabir Mirzayev spoke about the moment of Azerbaijan’s independence which brought big and positive changes to his country in all sectors.

“This independence is a big step in how we can develop ideas and concepts related to economic development and human resource management.

“Because of this, we grow and grow,” he said.

Jalal Sabir Mirzayev hopes that Indonesia will cooperate in holding an international conference related to climate change, namely Conference of the Parties (COP) 29. At COP 29 which will take place in November 2024, Azerbaijan is lined up to host it.

“Seeing that Indonesia is actively participating in addressing the global issue of climate change, we hope to work together with Indonesia in the context of COP 29.

“Through this international conference, it is hoped that it can provide the best results for all countries,” concluded the Ambassador of Azerbaijan to the Republic of Indonesia.
