He hopes that the PWI Antihoax Task Force can work together with the Ministry of Communication and Information.

The kick off of the Antihoax Task Force of the Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI) was held with great fanfare at the PWI office, Press Council Building, Floor IV, Jalan Kebon Sirih, Central Jakarta, Tuesday (9/1/2024).

This event was attended by the Minister of Communication and Information (Menkominfo) Budi Arie Setiadi, Karopenmas Brigadier General Pol Trunoyudo Wisnu Andika,

Dean of the Faculty of Communication Sciences, Mercu Buana University, Prof. Dr. Ahmadd Mulyana, and Chairman of the Press Council Ninik Rahayu.

Also present were a number of students from Mercu Buana University. In his report, the Chair of the PWI Anti-Hoax Task Force, M. Iqbal Irsyad, said that before kick off.

The task force had actively carried out literacy activities about hoaxes and collaborated with Mercu Buana University to create anti-hoax education.

Apart from that, they have also produced a podcast about anti-hoaxes. Iqbal emphasized the task force’s commitment to continuing to carry out outreach and prevent the spread of hoaxes.

Chairman of the Central PWI, Hendry Ch. Bangun stated that PWI would actively participate and provide solutions to community problems.

Hendry emphasized that the Anti-hoax Task Force will focus on visual content and plans to carry out anti-hoax patrols and literacy in every province.

He hopes that the presence of the Minister of Communication and Information at this kick-off will ensure the smooth work of the task force.

This activity is the Central PWI’s commitment to help the community and government in preventing the spread of hoaxes, especially during the General Election and Presidential Election.

“This task force will later form a patrol team to straighten out all the false information circulating in the community,” said Hendry Ch Bangun.

Minister of Communication and Information Budi Arie Setiadi said that cyber security during the election period was the main threat, before, during and after the election.

“The Ministry of Communication and Information continues to strive to deal with hoax content through counter narratives and taking down hoax issues,” said Budi Arie.

He also expressed high appreciation to PWI for forming an anti-hoax task force and invited them to work together to fight hoaxes. Budi Arie highlighted that hoax content, slander and hate speech have a serious impact on society.

“Hoaxes, slander and hate speech are siblings that must be fought, apart from degrading the dignity of other people who are their cousins,” said Budi.

He hopes that the PWI Antihoax Task Force can work together with the Ministry of Communication and Information to make elections more conducive.

In his closing statement, Minister Budi Arie invited all parties to work together to fight hoaxes by collaborating for the sake of peace and unity in the era of digital transformation.

“The digital era is an era of transformation, there are many opportunities for progress, let’s fight hoaxes with collaboration for the sake of peace and unity,” he concluded.
