Tangerang Regent Moch. Maesyal Rasyid officially sent off 20 Tangerang Gemilang scholarship recipients who will study at Al-Azhar University in Cairo, Egypt, on Thursday (December 11).

The event was held at the Tangerang Regent’s Hall on Jl. Kisamaun, Tangerang City, on Wednesday (December 10, 2025).

On that occasion, he expressed his pride and gratitude for the enthusiasm of the scholarship recipients and the support of their parents.

He also encouraged parents to continue praying for and supporting their children’s enthusiasm so they can carry out the teaching and learning process well, healthily, and become proud graduates who can contribute to regional development.

“Thank God, today we are all gathered with the parents and students who will be studying in Cairo.

There are 20 of them: 10 boys and 10 girls. Today, they will depart for Cairo, Egypt, to study at Al-Azhar,” said Regent Maesyal Rasyid.

He added that the 20 scholarship recipients are among 235 others receiving scholarships to continue their education at various universities in Greater Tangerang and outside Banten Province.

“We are assisting the people of Tangerang Regency, sorry to say, whose parents have limited or low incomes, through scholarships.

There are 20 going to Cairo, 30 studying at Swiss German University, 60 at Untirta, 10 at IPB, and other universities. So, we are assisting 235 people with their studies,” he explained.

He emphasized that the higher education scholarship program demonstrates the Tangerang Regency Government’s commitment to improving the quality of education and human resources in preparation for the Golden Indonesia 2045.

He also hopes for support and input from religious scholars (kyai), community leaders, educational figures, and various community elements to ensure the sustainability of the Tangerang Gemilang Scholarship program.

“Starting in 2025, we will be able to send children from low-income parents to college to achieve their dreams,” he said.

“God willing, we will increase the number in 2026, depending on the financial capacity of the Tangerang Regency Government,” he said.

The Head of the Social Welfare Division of the Regional Secretariat, Chaidir, stated that the Tangerang Gemilang Scholarship Program to Al-Azhar University is a concrete manifestation of the Tangerang Regency Government’s commitment.

To improve the quality of human resources through international education, particularly in Islamic studies at one of the world’s leading educational centers, Al-Azhar University in Cairo, Egypt.

“Twenty scholarship recipients will study at the world’s leading center for Islamic education, Al-Azhar University in Cairo, Egypt.

They will receive assistance in the form of passports, visas, and Arabic language courses.

Living expenses will also be covered each semester.

“Furthermore, the Tangerang Regency Government will cover the travel and return costs,” explained Chaidir, Head of the Social Welfare Division.

He also explained that the 20 scholarship recipients are the best students in Tangerang Regency who have passed the academic and administrative selection process, as well as pre-departure briefings.

“This send-off event is a form of support, motivation, and official guidance from the Tangerang Regency Government to the students.

To ensure they always uphold the good name of the Tangerang Regency Government and achieve success,” he said.
